2008 MEN'S SOCCER
PRESEASON COACHES' POLL

MEDAILLE PICKED TO WIN
AMCC MEN'S SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIP

The coaches of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference have picked two-time league champion Medaille College as the preseason favorite in men's soccer.  The Mavericks barely edged out defending champion Penn St. Behrend in the voting.  Frostburg State University was ranked #3.

Preseason Player of the Year honors were awarded to Medaille midfielder Gary Boughton (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster), last season's Co-Player of the Year and a two-time first team all-conference selection.  The junior was also a first team regional All-American (NSCAA and D3KICKS) and ranked # 2 in NCAA Div. III in assists with 19.  He was ranked in the top 5 in the AMCC in goals (11), assists, and points (41).

This season the conference welcomes Franciscan University of Steubenville to its ranks; the Barons are entering year two of NCAA provisional membership.  The AMCC kicks off conference play on Saturday, September 27, and the championship will be Saturday, November 8, hosted by the number #1 seed.  The winner will receive the AMCC's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
