AMCC STUDENTS TRAVEL TO DALLAS FOR NCAA CONVENTION

For the fifth year in a row, student-athletes representing four AMCC
institutions took a crash course in "NCAA 101", traveling to the
association's annual convention. It was a whirlwind three days
of meetings, roundtables and legislative sessions in Dallas for
David Coradi (Pitt-Greensburg), Jalisa Westover (Mount Aloysius
College), Jaime Salcedo (Medaille College) and Nicole Zambelli (Penn
State Altoona).
"I never realized how the perspective of the student-athlete was
valued by NCAA officials," commented Salcedo. "It seems that
they carefully listen to what we have to say, and strongly consider
our view points. During the AMCC and Division III meetings I was
also able to observe how new ideas are discussed, debated, and voted
upon. Seeing this definitely makes me want to dedicate more
time into the SAAC."
The students attended a wide variety of events during their stay.
Thursday started with
 the Opening
Business Session, which included members from all three divisions
for a state of the union address by NCAA president Mark Emmert.
Day two included the Division III Issues Forum, a luncheon with the
National Div. III SAAC, and the AMCC business meeting. They
attended the Honors Dinner Friday night, where they had a chance to
meet the evening's emcee, CBS News correspondent Jack Ford (photo
left). The convention concluded with the Division III
legislative session.
