It's been six years but the time has come for Frostburg State
University, according to
the 2004 AMCC pre-season coaches’ poll. The Bobcats earned
three of seven first place votes to make them the favorite to take
the conference title for the first time since they won it in 1998.
Close on their heels will be Penn State Altoona and La Roche
College, both of which took a pair of first place nods.
Unlike 2003 when there was no consensus on a Preseason Player of the
Year, the vote was near-unanimous for University of Pittsburgh at
Bradford senior catcher Nikki Spindler (Bradford HS/Bradford, PA).
A second-team
All-AMCC selection for the defending champion Panthers in 2003, Spindler
hit .421 (#3 in the AMCC) with 53 hits and 24 runs scored. She also
contributed 28 RBI, a team-high 15 doubles and 2 triples. Nearly as resounding a choice for
Preseason Pitcher of the Year is Penn State Altoona sophomore
Dana Garman (Hollidaysburg HS/Hollidaysburg, PA). Garman,
a second team All-AMCC honoree, led the conference in strikeouts
(115, 6.9 K's per 7) and was second overall in pitching victories
with 15.
