The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference coaches have
selected Frostburg State University as the favorite to
repeat as conference champions in 2005. The Bobcats have won
seven of the seven titles since the league's inception in 1997, and
are undefeated in 35 consecutive conference matches.
The squad finished 2004 with a 30-6 record.
Penn State Behrend, the only other squad ever to win the conference
volleyball crown, was selected to finish second.
Mount Aloysius College's outside hitter Jill McCoy (Central HS/Roaring
Spring, PA) was
the coaches' pick for Preseason Player of the Year. In
addition to being named a first team all-conference selection, the
senior was also the Mounties' MVP and the school's Athlete of the
Year in 2004. She led the league in kills (439), averaging
4.62 kpg.
The AMCC kicks off conference play on Wednesday, September 28.
The conference championship will be Saturday, November 5, hosted by the
number #1 seed. The winner will receive the AMCC's
automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
