 PENN ST. ALTOONA EXPECTED TO FINISH FIRST
IN AMCC TITLE RACE
 


Defending champion Penn State Altoona is likely to repeat and win its third AMCC championship in 2011, according to the preseason coaches' poll.  The Lions, 8-0-1 AMCC and 16-3-3 overall, will nevertheless find a stiff challenge from conference rival Penn State Behrend, which has won the league crown six times. In another close tally, La Roche College edged D'Youville College to finish third.

Preseason Player of the Year honors are shared by La Roche College junior forward Bethanie Moreschi (Pittsburgh, PA/North Hills), left, and Penn St. Altoona senior goalkeeper Lindsay Raspanti  (Fairless Hills, PA/Pennsbury), right.  Moreschi was a first team all-conference selection last season, leading the AMCC in scoring with 22 goals and 51 points, while ranked 11th in the nation in scoring and 12th in points.  Raspanti was the top goalkeeper in the AMCC in 2010 with a .44 GAA and .861 save percentage.  She set a school and AMCC record with 13 shutouts, allowing just 10 goals in 22 games.  The AMCC Co-Player of the Year, Raspanti was also named to the first team all-ECAC South and ECAC South Region Defensive Player of the Year

The AMCC kicks off conference play on Saturday, September 24, and the championship will be Saturday, November 5, hosted by the number #1 seed.  The winner will receive the AMCC's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
