PENN ST. BEHREND HOLDS OFF PITT-BRADFORD FOR
BASEBALL CROWN
5/11/08
A determined ninth inning rally by the #4 seed
Pitt-Bradford Panthers fell short as top seeded
Penn State Behrend secured an 9-8 win and with
it the AMCC baseball championship and an
automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. A
two-run homer by DH Justin Bifano
(Shippenville, PA/Keystone) helped rally the
Panthers to within one, but the Behrend Lions
closed the door on the third out when
first baseman Zach Sullivan (Oil City, PA/Oil
City) made a stabbing catch of a rocket line
drive hit up the first base line. Behrend
finished the regular season with a 34-10 record
(17-1 AMCC). This is their second AMCC
title and it will be their first-ever NCAA
tournament appearance.
Behrend will now travel to Rutgers, NJ where
they will be the #4 seed in the Mid-Atlantic
Regional hosted by Kean University May 14-18.
They will face #5 Messiah. Pitt-Bradford's
strong season-ending performance earned the
Panthers an ECAC South Region Tournament bid as
well. As the #5 seed, Pitt-Bradford
travels to #4 Washington & Jefferson in first
round action on Wednesday.

the Year honors went to Lake Erie freshman third
baseman Katie Puda (Euclid, OH/Euclid),
who also stood out at the plate (.417 BA, 40

Ventura got the nod for Coach of the Year, a
first-time honor for her, after leading the Lady
Mavs to the conference's regular season title
