MEDAILLE FAMILIAR CHOICE TO WIN
MEN'S SOCCER CROWN

 


Three-time defending champion (and winner of five of the past six crowns) Medaille College has been picked to edge out Penn State Behrend (four AMCC titles overall) in the 2011 AMCC coaches' poll.   Penn St. Altoona was expected to finish a close third.

Preseason Player of the Year honors go to Medaille College forward Alexander Rouse (Marcellus, NY/Marcellus).  The 2010 AMCC Co-Player of the Year and three-time  AMCC first team all-conference pick is also a two-time NSCAA Regional All-American and ECAC first team all-region selection in 2010.  He led the Mavs in scoring and finished in the AMCC top three in shots, goals, and points the past three seasons.  Rouse finished the 2010 campaign with 14 goals and 4 assists for 32 points in 21 matches.

The AMCC kicks off conference play on Saturday, September 24, and the championship will be Saturday, November 5, hosted by the number #1 seed.  The winner will receive the AMCC's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

Sophomore F/M Dillon Patterson (East Aurora, NY/West Seneca Christian)...Played in all 18 games as a freshman...led the team in goals scored with 3 goals on 16 shots...also finished as the team's leading points scorer (7).

Sophomore GK Matt Smith (Bergen, NY/Byron-Bergen)...Played in every game last season...led a very young defense, making 159 saves on the season (.733 save pct.), the most saves of any goalkeeper in the AMCC...voted team MVP.

Junior F Ed Sarcione (Eden, NY/Eden)...Second team All-AMCC in 2010...earned 13 points (6 goals, 1 assist) in league play...team leading goal scorer (9) with 21 shots on goal.

Senior D Greg Ceravolo (Hampton, PA/Hampton)...Team captain...started 19 games in 2010, leading the team in assists (5)...ever present in conference play and holds together the defensive unit.

Sophomore M Tyler Irwin (Gibsonia, PA/Pine-Richland)...Started 19 games as a freshman, leading the team in goals (4) and total points (9)...goals included 2 game winners, one in overtime vs. Pitt Greensburg and the other in the first round playoff game vs. Pitt Bradford.

Sophomore GK Adam Al-Habashi (Indiana, PA/Indiana)...Played 15 games, starting 14...4.68 GAA with 138 saves, the second highest saves total in the league.

Curtis Brumbaugh (New Enterprise, PA/Northern Bedford)...Started all 18 games for the Mounties...scored 3 goals and 1 assist for 7 points...recorded 26 shots and 1 game-winning goal.
