2005-06 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
PRESEASON COACHES' POLL

MEDAILLE EXPECTED TO STEP UP
TO AMCC TITLE IN 2005-06

Medaille College, which finished third in its first season of conference play, is predicted to win the 2005-06 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference women's basketball championship, according to the AMCC preseason coaches’ poll.

The Lady Mavericks lost 72-70 to Pitt-Greensburg in the semifinals of the conference tournament last year.  UPG is picked to finish second this season; both squads earned bids to the ECAC Div. III South Region tournament last year.  Frostburg State University, last year's champion and the recipient of the AMCC's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament, came in at #3.

Medaille forward Amanda Baker (Lyons, NY/Newark HS) was the coaches' pick as Preseason Player of the Year.  As a freshman Baker ranked third in the league in scoring (18.8 ppg) and second in rebounding (11.3 rpg).  She was last season's Co-Player and Newcomer of the Year.

The winner of the AMCC tournament receives an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
